WAXING NOSTALGIC expands hand-crafted beeswax ornaments into the 2010 corporate gift and special events market

The beeswax ornaments produced by WAXING NOSTALIC are cast from an impressive collection of molds inspired by antique springerle and speculaas cookie boards, colonial gingerbread presses, primitive American butter molds, Victorian chocolate molds, and vintage European marzipan molds. About 50 different designs are available, spanning a wide range of themes and sizes, from tiny miniature corns to enormous, ornate 16th century wedding hearts weighing in at half a pound. Each ornament is cast, trimmed, and tinted entirely by hand from 100% pure white beeswax. No paraffin or chemical stabilizers are added. Integral color (achieved with beeswax-based pigments) is permanent and will not fade. Although surface tints are somewhat more delicate, they should not rub off with normal use.

As an added value, each ornament comes with its own personalized hang tag which states the actual name of the ornament, the date its original mold was produced, and (if known) who carved it. The tag also contains historical information, instructions for care, suggestions for use, and other relevant information. "If someone wants the name of a special event printed on the front of the tag," says Taylor, "we can customize it accordingly."

Although most clients prefer their ornaments to be cast in a natural shade, occasionally WAXING NOSTALGIC gets requests to match the color of bridesmaids' dresses, a corporate logo, or even the color scheme of floral arrangements, table linens, etc. Working from client-provided swatches, samples are produced for approval and orders filled accordingly. Client-provided ribbon can also be used.

Cathy Broski an award winning artist will be exhibiting her sculpture line Dogs at Play at The Winter Philadelphia Buyers Market of American Craft, February 2010

Cathy's fun loving dog sculptures are inspired by her own beloved dog Porter. Handcrafted by Cathy each design is made one at a time by the highest standard.

Cathy is an award winning artist who was the recipient of the Natchez fellowship February 2009, where she also taught a workshop.

My work is steeped in archetypal and personal symbolism. Figures, houses, boats and pottery are all vessels to contain things we hold dear, and sometimes those things we would cast off. I chose these forms to work with because they have several levels of meaning I find intriguing to explore. The surfaces reflect my experience and attitude.

I love the idea of found objects, because of their wear and marks of their journeys. I see people in much the same way. When I go to a museum or a home and see these objects put into a special environment they are reborn. To accomplish this in my own work, I use a layering technique.

By using the figure as a three-dimensional canvas, the eye will travel completely around the surface. This helps to enhance the pattern or surprise in a story. Each piece begins on the potter's wheel or with slabs. The pieces grow with the application of coils or additional slabs. When each piece is completed, I carve the surface and let it dry. The base color is applied and fired. Once the first firing is complete, I apply and wipe off a combination of terra sigilattas, slips, stains and glazes, then fire again. This process is repeated until I achieve the desired effect.

Cathy Broski will exhibit the entire Dogs at Play line, as well as her other sculptures. February 12-15, 2010, at the Philadelphia Buyers Market of American craft, Philadelphia Convention Center, booth #2205.

Freyja Designs provides full service graphic design and production, with a specialty in print media pre-press preparation

New to Baolink's roster of creative services, Freyja Designs provides full service graphic design and production for concept development, design, photography, art direction, pre-press preparation, working with letterpress printers, providing contract supervision/oversight.  Founder and owner Kristin McWeeney's 25+ years of experience in the field has given her a wide range of visual communication skills. Although her primary interest is logo design, print media, packaging, and point of purchase, she has also done signage, re-branding, advertising, annual reports, magazines, newsletters, and complex projects involving embossing, die-cutting, and silk-screening. Additionally, she is an excellent photographer with a special interest in Photoshop montage, photo illustration, hand-tinting, and re-touching/repair.

After several years working in Kodak's processing department (producing in-store graphics), Long's, advertising department, and several Bay Area print companies, Kristin began freelancing in 1990. For Cushman and Wakefield in San Francisco, she designed and produced commercial real estate brochures, presentation folios, cut sheets, and press packets. For the San Francisco Zoo, she did design and production management for brochures, flyers, invitations, interpretive and event signage, t-shirts, presentation folios, and more, providing varying levels of support - from freelance to permanent part-time employment. Other clients include Wells Fargo Bank, Stanford University, The Marine Mammal Center, Lincoln Properties, The Jewish Federation of Silicon Valley, The Palo Alto Jewish Community Center, The Silicon Valley Council of Non-Profits, Health Trust of Santa Clara Valley, Pace Yourself Fitness, True Balance Fitness, Discover Chiropractic, The Pool Police, Friendship Photography, Innowright, and St. Clare's School.

In 2000, Kristin was the co-publisher of Santa Clara Valley Lifestyles  - a magazine developed and designed to put the valley ahead of the silicon. Only four issues were produced, but the last issue outsold Oprah in the SF Bay Area. In 2001, she was co-publisher of Clubhouse  - a magazine for Bay Area community living. Unfortunately, both folded after 9/11due to the economic downturn.

When asked why her company is named Freyja Designs, Kristin explained she wanted a name that reflects her Scandinavian heritage. "Freyja was the goddess of love, beauty, prosperity and power. I also liked some of the illustrations that depict her from ancient Icelandic cultures."

Each clock is bordered with colorful swirls and geometric patterns. See the latest designs from Dovetail Ceramics, featuring the Chair Pattern and Sea Series at Buyer's Market of American Craft in Philadelphia

Dovetail Ceramics, the collaboration of Josh and Margaret Smith, specializes in bold, black on white porcelain dishes for everyday use. These dishes are handmade to the highest standards in our studio in Lexington, KY.

In 2005, we joined our tools and talent in printmaking & ceramics to create a line of distinctive dishes.  We named our venture Dovetail, to reflect the spirit of collaboration between the two of us as well as our desire to collaborate with those who use our dishes and put them into action. Each of our pieces is hand-made from high-quality porcelain and is handled numerous times during the process of creating, glazing and adding our screen-printed images to the surface. We create our work with design, longevity and function in mind. Our process involves the innovative collaboration of unique and playful screen-printed imagery with handmade, softly squared ceramic forms.

" With both our forms and our imagery we are using age-old traditional techniques In order to make pieces that are contemporary and fresh." This year, Dovetail won a coveted Merit Award from the Buyer's Market of American Craft as well as an "AltCraft" award from the American Craft Council.  In February 2009, they exhibited their work at the ACC flagship show in Baltimore.

Buyers Market of American Craft, Philadelphia February 2010 featuring Finely Crafted Jewelry by Robin Goodfellow Designs

Robin Goodfellow Designs unique wire jewelry and beading designs are sure to intrigue.  Classically elegant and whimsical pieces, with a Shakespearean touch, are the perfect adornment to embellish bare necks, empty earlobes and delicate wrists of women across the country.

Robin Satterthwaite, Robin Goodfellow Designs product designer, is the director of a children's ballet company.  She represents music, dance, nature and Shakespeare and this reflects in her jewelry designs.  Her whimsical jewelry designs dance about the wrist and neck on wire, wrapped and twisted, to link the steps in a carefully choreographed ballet featuring a cast of rhinestones, pearls, glass, crystal and antiqued metal beads.  In an effort to be unique, Robin Satterthwaite creates her own techniques for working with wire and refrains from borrowing ideas from the works of modern artists(although she admires many).  She does however, sometimes looks to the design of vintage pieces for inspiration.  Many customers not only wear the jewelry but display it as a work of art.

Paula Jerome Designs is committed to creating jewelry that evokes elegance and timeless style.

Paula Jerome was born in Philadelphia on January 5th, 1949 to first generation Italian parents. Her childhood was spent with a large extended family intent on retaining many customs brought over from Italy. During her early years she developed two passions: one for design, and one for spirituality, both of which has led her on a lifelong journey.

From 1949 to 1975, Paula's family traveled 60 miles to Atlantic City where Paula remembers her summer vacations laced with the smell of salt air, white sand beaches and the boardwalk. It was during these years that Paula experienced the "old Atlantic City." She saw the Diving Horse on the Steel Pier, walked through the six-story high Lucy the Elephant, ate Fralinger's and James salt-water taffy, and had many rides on the Rolling Chairs that cruised the boardwalk.  This was the inspiration for her "Atlantic City Charm Bracelet."
